To make our fitness training worthwhile, we should find the exercise that is best suited for us. It is just like determining first whether you are mesomorph, ectomorph, or endomorph body types. You need to know what body type you are in to find the best fitness program for you. That is the same in exercises, you have to find the best exercise for you to get the result you want. One of the best exercises is yoga.

Yoga can benefit you physically, physiologically, mentally and emotionally. In a physical level, it brings balance, flexibility, improves posture and strength, and makes bones, muscles, joints and skin healthy. It helps balance metabolism and lose weight. It is also very helpful in developing a lean body. Physiologically, it revitalizes the nervous system and stimulates internal organs through breath circulation. Mentally and emotionally, it helps to relieve stress and tension and helps improve focus and concentration. You will find yourself having a clear mind session after session. This clear mind will lead you to a more harmonious, happier and healthier life.

Aside from the physical, physiological, mental and emotional benefits, yoga is also accessible, adaptable and convenient. There are a variety of forms, techniques and skill levels in yoga. Thus, there is practically a yoga form suited for an individual. Switching from one type to another will keep you from getting bored with the same routine. It is convenient in a way that it requires little space so practicing is handy and you can have it even just for 10 minutes, well-suited for a busy schedule. You may choose from practicing alone to doing it with your friends. You can start by hiring your personal yoga teacher or by simply buying a DVD. Developing a practice that will fit your lifestyle is easy.

So, why choose yoga for your exercise? I say, why not?

People exercise for different reasons and it may be difficult to choose an exercise routine that meets their specific needs. Some keep active to stay fit while others are looking for a way to keep the mind occupied. Yoga is the answer for those people who are looking for both. There are many different types of yoga and for the beginner it can be difficult to get a grasp on all the different names and what they mean. A good practice for the newbie or anyone who wants something on the sedate side is Hatha Yoga. Introduced in India during the 1400s, modern versions of this ancient practice suit the needs of most Westerners and what they expect to get out of any physical workout.

Some Background on Hatha Yoga

This practice was originally used by those who were interested in preparing the body for more serious meditation. Westerners discovered this type of yoga during the 1920s and it was taught under different names. Ashtanga and Bikram are directly related to this ancient style. Classes taught in the West emphasize the physical benefits more and do not dwell so much on the meditation as it relates to Hatha.

Types of Movements Associated with Hatha

Hatha is the variety of yoga that most people have in mind when they hear the word. Breathing and yoga poses are emphasized during lessons. The goal is for students to strengthen the body while purifying the mind. This school uses traditional positions and requires strength as well as flexibility to get through the session. With a focus on breathing, Hatha exercises the body while simultaneously stretching it.

The Various Benefits of Doing Yoga

A greater degree of physical strength is the most obvious advantage for someone practicing Hatha Yoga. The body is forced to bend into a variety of unfamiliar shapes and then maintain those yoga positions for a specified period of time. Many people who participate will find that they are in very good shape after studying for a few years. The emphasis on balancing body and mind will also lead the practitioner to greater clarity. Deep breathing leads to a clear mind and turns the focus inward. This is why yoga is also a great stress reliever.

Hatha yoga classes can be found in local studios, gyms, in DVD programs or even yoga classes online.
